A boutique hotel in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of my favourite European cities and one I would love to revisit in summer this year! My first visit was a solo trip in early autumn and I had sunshine throughout the whole trip so I spent my days aimlessly wandering, stopping in lots of local shops and finding the best coffee in the city. It’s the perfect city to explore on foot (or on two wheels which I have not been brave enough to try yet).

Hotel V Fizeaustraat is a hotel in the east Amsterdam (approx. 10-15 mins from the city centre by Metro) and it has 91 beautiful rooms and a stunning restaurant, including candlelit breakfasts…! It’s a short walk from Amstel Station where you can easily catch the metro to the city centre and is perfect for if you want to stay away from the busier areas.

I’ve stayed there a couple of times now for work reasons but I would genuinely stay there if I was revisiting anyway as I think it’s an underrated hotel. Even the smallest room is super spacious, the facilities felt luxurious (dressing gowns, slippers, complimentary snacks in the room) and the staff were so welcoming.

How do you get there?

The closest train station is Amstel (under 10 min. walk from the hotel) so you can get the metro or you could book an Uber.

A little bit more about the hotel…

  • Prices in off-peak season start from c.£76 per night which is SUCH good value for the design, amenities and service.

  • There is an additional charge for breakfast - whilst this was really good, I don’t think it’s necessary to include this in your booking as there are so many delicious cafes to visit in the city centre instead for a more affordable option (see recommendations further along this post).

  • Even the smallest rooms are really spacious. In the rooms, you’ll find designer furniture, a desk, a big TV (which unfortunately you can’t cast to) and a super spacious bathroom with rain shower and exclusively designed Etika amenities. We also had dressing gowns and slippers in our room which were an added luxury.

  • It’s a design-led hotel and the interiors so are inspired by classic 1970s so you’ll see beautiful vintage pieces, wood paneling, tapestries and low-slung leather sofas to sink into. It’s gorgeous, minimal, somewhat industrial – and incredibly comfortable.

  • Because of its location, the hotel has sort of a “corporate” feel to it. However, I don’t think this takes away from the beautiful design!

  • If you’d prefer a different location but the same quality, the hotel also has two sister hotels — Hotel V Frederiksplein and Hotel V Nesplein both in the city centre.

TIP - as a general tip for when you are looking to book a hotel in Amsterdam, one thing I would not recommend is booking a canal-view room anywhere. I stayed in one on my first trip and whilst the views were lovely and the neighbourhood was stunning, the noise was not worth the price I paid! If you’d prefer to stay closer to central, you can check out more hotels here.

What to do in Amsterdam in a weekend

A long weekend is the perfect amount of time to explore Amsterdam (2 nights) or you could stay longer and do a day trip nearby. A few things I recommend from my trip…
